Linked to the work of
ASPIRE Penang is all about working with refugee communities in Penang.
It consolidates and takes forward the community-based initiatives which began with the Penang Stop Human Trafficking Campaign (PSHTC).
Please have fun exploring this site. You will find information on

Background to the situation of refugees in Malaysia;

How ASPIRE Penang works with refugee communities in Penang to promote leadership, networking, education including early childhood education, women's empowerment, youth development, and community documentation and advocacy.
Lots going on and lot's more to do!
The work is planned and delivered by a small team of committed individuals with our refugee members absolutely central. The actual delivery is mainly carried out by our refugee team, including our refugee community workers, the Penang Refugee Network (community leaders), our refugee teachers and refugee facilitators. We do not employ any non-refugee; our wonderful non-refugee members give their commitment voluntarily.

In Memoriam: GALE METCALF

Gale Metcalf was a long-term volunteer and wonderful asset for ASPIRE Penang. She supported the Penang refugee community through her wide-ranging skill sets and passion for human rights. She was very involved in mentoring staff, sourcing financial and volunteer resources and providing strategic guidance on organisational development. Her compassion, kindness, generosity, warmth and skills will always be cherished and long be remembered by all who came across her. Very sadly, Gale passed away on February 27, 2023. We will miss her.
